Dr. Sobritchea currently serves as a Professorial Lecturer of the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) and Chair of the CHED Technical Panel on Gender and Women’s Studies. She is also a member of the Advisory Council of the TESDA Women’s Center, and Vice President of the UP Center for Women’s Studies Foundation. She served as President of the International Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society from 2017-2020.

She has served as Project Leader of numerous research and training programs for government institutions, development organizations, civil society groups and the academic community. These initiatives have covered such topics as anthropological analyses of the situation of various ethno-linguistic groups, gender mainstreaming and preparation of gender plans, integration of accountability measures thru application of human rights principles in Gender and Development (GAD), migration and mobility, climate change, and women’s role in peace keeping. Many of these research and advocacy projects have contributed to the passage of international and regional (i.e. ASEAN) agreements, action plans and local laws and policies. She has for many years provided technical assistance to the Philippine Commission on Women for the preparation of the gender mainstreaming guidelines and tools.

Dr Sobritchea has authored and edited several books, book chapters, journal articles, policy papers and advocacy materials on various topics which have been used in classroom teaching and in policy review/development.
