Michael Sy, PhD is a health professions education (HPEd) specialist who is also an occupational therapist by profession. Dr. Sy is currently designated as an Associate Professor of health professions education at the National Teacher Training Center for the Health Professions, University of the Philippines Manila. In UP Manila, he teaches courses on instructional design, learning theories, interprofessional education and collaborative practice, and teaching skills. On top of teaching, he is actively engaged in HPEd, occupational therapy, occupational science, and health social sciences research through thesis advising, publishing research, and serving as associate editor/peer-reviewer for various local and international journals including Journal of Occupational Science, Scandinavian Journal of Occupational Therapy, Brazilian Journal of Occupational Therapy among others. In terms of external esteem, Dr. Sy is a Regular Member of the National Research Council of the Philippines (DOST), a Research Fellow for occupational therapy at the Tokyo Metropolitan University, Japan, and has recently been designated as an External Thesis Supervisor for the European Master of Science in Occupational Therapy program, Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (Netherlands).
